A wave of darkness coursed through the endless heavens, almost as if night was descending early. Huge, tattered leathery wings spread across several meters and were an even deeper colour than the void of black, sunless sky they left behind in his wake. His name was Void, he of the darker than midnight fur and the soulless orange eyes which stood out so much, like a light in a darkened room. A window into the tortured soul that lay within, screaming for release like a wild beast in a too-small cage.
An unearthly wind ruffled his fur, huge muscles rippling like water beneath. Dagger claws and knife-edged fangs were as black as obisidian glass, but even more menacing. His shadowed muzzle was bloodstained, fresh blood running from his open jaws and hissing as it met the forest canopy below. Open wounds ran over his body, great weeping sores that would never close up or heal. None would stand in his way, for he had a terrible curse. Never rest, never be happy, contented or joyful, always hungry no matter how much he ate, always thirsty, even if he drank a whole lake. Always to be freezing cold one instant, then unbearably hot the next. Never to be loved, and to spread fear and darkness through his realm. Unless he could find the one wolf who could break his curse, and be free and whole once more.
Void saw the river winding far below him, and glided to the ground in huge, slow spirals. He landed lightly, wincing as pain exploded up his wounded legs. Opening his eyes again, he looked about him. This place was no better than the last, but it mattered little. Void bent down and drank, the water running over his raw flesh tasting of blood, then stood again, still parched. He howled his sorrow to the sky, a terrible sound full of pain and loss, then sat, his acidic blood corroding the grass around him.

Yakira had mindlessly wandered away from the safety of the Nozomi lands and went into the Loners area – which was at the border of the Nozomi terrain. They were free to go and leave as they please, however most of the time the loners stayed within their own land until they wished to leave and the Nozomi wolves remained in their land. She knew why she was here though. She tilted her head up at the bright morning sky, when she left Nozomi it was almost midnight, meaning she had been walking for quite a few hours now. She felt her sides burning and her heart rapidly beat in her chest, but she ignored it. She had to stay away from her pack lands – for she knew that time was about to happen. She panted as she kept on walking. She couldn’t give up now, she didn’t want it to happen upon the lands, no, and she didn’t want to hurt anyone. Yakira took a deep breath, sucking up any fresh air that was upon the loner’s area before she finally dragged herself to the river. She dipped her head and drank a few drops before she stared at her reflection.
Yakira’s pelt was a soft gray color, almost a dark white color. She had black markings upon the tips of her ears, paws as well as her three tails which swung behind her. Her deep sapphire green eyes stared intently at her reflection. Her eyes flickered down upon the necklace that her father had given to her. She closed her eyes that were such a long time ago. She felt a pain in her stomach, as if someone had just kicked her. She hissed as she buckled down and lay down upon the lake. She didn’t know how much longer she had. She would probably be lucky to have another hour or two before it happened. “Ugh, I hate this.” She whispered to herself as she closed her eyes, wrapping her tails tightly around her body. You’d think she be used to the pain by now, but she hadn’t, she didn’t know if she would ever be able too.

Void slowed his breathing and closed his eyes, shivering as his body became deathly cold. He growled under his breath, wishing that the pain would go away, and knowing that it would not. "Why?" He whispered hoarsely, as another few drops of crimson blood trickled over his ebony fangs and fell to the ground. Void was forced to stand as his curse once again denied him proper rest, and then he walked over to the river, leaving a patch of dead ground where he had been sat only moments before. Void looked at his reflection for a few seconds, then shuddered. I am a monster. thought Void as he regarded his own horrible orange eyes, black fangs and blacker fur.
Hopefully the sky would darken soon, allowing Void to stay in the shadows, hidden. He raised his bloodstained muzzle and scented the air, detecting other wolves nearby. That would probably mean trouble, and lots of it. These lands were not exactly paradise, and the inhabitants would probably not welcome him very warmly. Another harsh laugh escaped his throat, but it was shortly checked as Void once again caught his reflection in the river water. He snarled and raised a paw, then stepped into the water, disrupting the flow and destroying the reflection...

Yakira tilted her head upward when she thought she heard something. She pinned ears back upon her head, in the loner’s land you had to be ready for anything. Who knew who walked through these lands. She dug in her claws in the soft ground, the fur upon her neck stood up. However, when she spotted the male wolf, she relaxed. For he didn’t seem to be like a big threat, but who knew. She pushed herself up from the ground as she looked back down upon her reflection. This was the clean part of the river, but she knew if she kept on walking soon the river’s clear water would turn a deadly red from the blood that rolled into the land. Just the thought of it sent a shiver down her spine. She stared at the male for some time, her three tails absent mindly flowing behind her. She didn’t come here to chat, she groaned as she bent over in pain. She said cursing under her breath. “Damn it, if she comes now…who knows what she will do.” She turned and looked up at the male. “Hey, if you value your life you’d get away…” her words were cut short as pain shot through her body. It was probably coming sooner then she thought. She took deep breaths until the pain subsided, for now.

Void fixed his attention on this female. She appeared to be in pain of some sort, but had no visable injuries. Her words made little sense to Void, for he could not see any harm in her look, she did not appear overly intimidating. Then again, looks can be decieving. Placing his paw back on the ground, he turned to face her properly. The pain was increasing, as it always did around other wolves. Eventally it would force his departure, but not yet. He could resist for a while longer, to rest his aching flight muscles. This female hadn't run or attacked yet, but the threat was a definite warning. He coughed, his dry throat stinging acutely, then spoke in a dry voice "Why? Is this place dangerous?" Void asked, his tongue feeling like sandpaper aginst the injured flesh in his mouth. Just to make sure, he smelled the air again, finding few traces of other wolves. He looked around the area slowly, scanning the inky shadows beneath the nearby trees and seeing nothing. This was very unusual. Perhaps the female meant to force him away. It would not exactly be unusual behaviour, but still there was something very disconcerting about all of this...

Yakira grinded her teeth as the male wolf had come over. Darn, perhaps if she hadn’t said anything he wouldn’t have come over. She dug her claws into the ground, taking deep breaths. Please, just wait a little bit longer. She tilted her head at his question. Oh, he must have assumed she was talking about the loners area was dangerous. No, well, it probably was dangerous – but as far as she knew she was the danger at the moment, though she really couldn’t tell him the truth? She hated his truth about herself, the truth that lay deep within her heart. “No,” she strained to say, “It’s not the land that’s dangerous its…” she took a sharp breath the pain had went away. She blinked a few times; she was surprised that it would just vanish like that. Perhaps she was backing down, listening to her? Psh, she doubted it. She knew the pain would be back. In a matter of minutes, double as worst, and then she would come, Yakira turned away almost forgetting the male was there. She felt as a breeze blew through her fur. She took a sharp breath. “It’s Rikara. She’s coming.” She whispered the words were low that they were barley audible for her to hear, she wasn’t even sure if he could hear her, and frankly didn’t care if he did or not

Something about the way she said those words made Void step back and look about him once more. He had little to fear from most wolves, but even so there were some wolves that Void feared. His terrible orange eyes flickered for a moment, and something shifted, allowing Void to think clearly. The curse had allowed him some headway, and now his mind was between the darkness and his normal self. Soon though, he would slip back so this clarity of mind must be used to good effect. He could not smell, see or hear any other wolves but this female, so either this other wolf was hidden, very fast, or standing directly in front of him. He licked a droplet of blood from one of his sharp fangs, again losing himself in thought for a moment. Then he snapped back into reality and looked again at the female, careful to avoid eyes contact. It would not be a good thing for either of them if he did. Void was determined to keep his pain to himself unless circumstances forced it on him. "This, Rikara, where is she coming from? I cannot smell any other wolves" He said again, cringing inwardly at the sound of his rasping voice. Void however, did know the good aspects of taking precautions, and so slowly half-unfolded his ragged wings, dreading the prospect of another fast flight...

Yakira calmed down, she could feel the pain began to dissolve. She turned her head back over to the male with a tilt of his head. He didn’t guess it, well who would. She shook her head at his words, but did not reply. She tilted her head up at the blacken sky, still not speaking. She knew the truth. Rikara wasn’t coming from anywhere except for inside her, for Yakira had a split personality. The darker side of her lingered in her mind and heart until she decided to come out for blood, she was ruthless and cared for none. Yakira frowned as she thought about it. A portion of her life had to do with living as Rikara in a place she did not want to be, then again that was the first time that she appeared, but not the last. Rikara had been born from Yakira’s pain and hatred for her brother, but was still growing, although she wasn’t sure why. If Yakira and Rikara was too stand right next to each other, the only way you could tell they were one in the same was from their necklace and that was it. Yakira finally turned her head toward to the male. “No,” she said with a sad smile, shaking her head, “she is coming from somewhere else.” She whispered in a low voice as she three tails swung behind her. “Coming from somewhere deep within.” She uttered as she twisted her head and looked behind her, as though expecting Rikara to be right there. She pinned her ears back upon her head as she sat down upon the ground. For now within was silent, but she knew not to get her hopes up, when she wanted to come out, she did, and Yakira had no way of how to stop her.

Void tensed as the last of her words reached his ears. He had met only one wolf before who sounded anything like this, and she had been good and kind until she lost control of her darkness. Void remembered the purple of her pelt flowing into black, and the terrible emptyness of her once kind eyes. He shivered, thinking of how another wolf had come by, and the battle. Afterwards, all that remained of either was dead grass and blackened ground. If this female was anything like her, something terrible must have happened to cause it. Still, she did look as if she was in control now, not about to start attacking anyone. Void considered this for a moment, eyes on the river nearby. This was probably different, but what could she mean? Another cursed wolf perhaps? Nothing seemed to fit, and eventually Void gave up trying and looked back at her, again carefully avoiding eye contact. "You do not look...but why?" He said wretchedly, still wondering what on earth could suddenly cause this female to go bad. He had unconciously folded his wings once more, barely noticing the pain in them as he was so intrigued. Of course, if she wished him to leave then he would, for he could not stay much longer anyway...

Yakira quickly turned away from the male and made her way to the edge of the river and looked at her reflection. Her reflection stared back at her with an empty gaze which caused Yakira to shake her head. For so long she had to carry this burden upon her shoulders. She did not want it and yet she did not know how to free herself from this darkness. Yakira could only remember a glimpse of her life in when she did not have to live with Rikara, back in the happy days of her youth hood, but she had to grow up fast. She had to grow up because her mother had become so unstable when her father had past away. Yakira turned her head back over to the male. “Why? I do not know why.” She said with a small frown as she turned her body away from the river. Just watching her false reflection caused her to get an uneasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. “It’s always been like this, for such a long time…ever since…” She paused trying to remember the exact moment when this occurred. She tilted her head to the side, it was when her brother and his friend came and took her away – she had blacked out – and that is the last that she remembered. A year of her memory was gone because of that event but Rikara had filled her in all the little details – to the point were Yakira begged her not to say anymore. “Just for a long time,” she mumbled not really wanting to go into the details with a wolf whom she did not even know his name.

Void nodded slowly, noting the female's hesitation. Yes, there had probably been something wrong in her past. He considered flying away, but decided that it would be best for him to see if there was any way to help, and then leave when he was given no other choice. Already, the pain in his limbs was steadily increasing, and his throat seemed to be even more raw than usual. He sighed inwardly, thinking fondly of when a good meal had still been able to fill his empty belly, when water could still satify his thirst. These thoughts did not help him at all, and so he tried to banish them from his mind, causing him even more pain. Void swayed slightly, almost unnoticeabley, as he struggled to remain standing. His eyes closed for a moment, and then opened again. The curse was trying to control him again, but he kept the darkness at bay, as he had done for so long now. Void almost smiled as he wondered how he had stayed sane, even though others around him had hated him for what he was now. He knew that he should accept what he was, but for some reason Void couldn't comepletely destroy his hope. It was almost gone, but still prevented the darkness from taking Void's heart. He had vowed that he would never give in to the darkness, however hard it may be. Void straightened, and looked back at the female again. She had given him more of an answer than he had expected, and still looked to be in control of herself. "Is there any way to help?" He finally asked, the normal Void beating back his evil for the present and winning control of his words.

Yakira shook her head sadly at his words. For she was afraid there was no hope for anyone else being able to help her. She seeked it for many years and everyone told her to the same thing. Now she knew there was only one that could help her. “No one can help me,” she said as she smiled softly, “only I can help myself…although I’m not sure if I can do that.” she said with a sigh. She knew the truth even when she looked to others for help. Only could she defeat this, but she wasn’t sure how and yet she did. She had to move on from her past, but the present and past are tied together as one and that was holding her back from her future. She wasn’t sure how to let go, she was afraid too, even after all this time, she was still tied down. She knew it was pathetic, yet she felt like she had to hold on to it, because who knows what could happen if she let go. “You see me and Rikara are one and the same.” She told him. She knew it was rare for many to know that they had an alternate personality, but Yakira was fully aware of Rikara – even though she blacked out whenever she came out and has no memory of what Rikara had done. Though she often found it later on, wheter it be Rikara who told her or others. A shiver ran down her spine, she did not even like to think about it. The thoughts were to horrid.

Void lowered his head slightly, expecting as much but still disappointed. Then again, she had more control than he did, so still he envied this female, as he envied all wolves who were free and able to live normal lives. He thought bitterly of his old family, and how as a pup he had dreamed of adventure and travelling to far-off lands. Now, he would gladly live out his days in one place, with the company of any other wolf. Void knew this would probably never be, on account of his curse. The first part was unlikely, the second impossible while he was still like this. Void sat slowly, causing more blood to come oozing from the gashes on his legs and making him groan inwardly. Another sudden change in his temperature made him shudder, bringing his thoughts forceably back to the present. "You at least, are able to help yourself, if you know how. Some are not as lucky..." He trailed off, suddenly becoming aware that he had probably said too much. The grass around him had now been burned away, leaving a patch of bare earth, slightly corroded. Void lowered his soulless orange eyes to the ground, noticing the damage he had caused merely by sitting on this spot. How long does this continue? He thought, wishing that he could see the future, or at least know if he would ever be free once more...

“Perhaps in a way I am lucky…” Yakira said with a shrug of her shoulders. She was able to get out of her problem, make herself free from the wicked chains. Perhaps she was freer then most, but she did not feel like it. She felt like there was a heavy burden upon her soul and as the days went by the burden became heavier and soon she was afraid it would come to the point where it would be too heavy for her. “Then again,” she went on in a low emotionless tone, “I am not lucky like others. Many are without the woes of waking up and seeing several killed and not remembering anything. Some do not have to face the memories of their past every night as they sleep.” She knew she wasn’t one to complain. There were many out there that had it worst then her, but sometimes she felt as if she was alone in this world, as if she could not break free. She sat down upon the ground, wrapping her tails around herself. Even in this larger world, she did not feel anyone else, except for Rikara. She knew she was pathetic in a way.

Void didn't immeadiately answer, just sat perfectly still on the bare earth, head bowed slightly. He almost said something, then thought better of it and stopped himself. He had only just met this wolf, and though her situation was bad, knowing anything about his curse would probably just make things worse. Few guessed, despite his wounds and obvious pain, until they made eye contact. Void knew only too well the reactions of other wolves after looking into his eyes, and was keen not to have it repeated with any other wolves. Also, he would have to leave soon and this time he would try not to cause any more pain than necessary. He slowly looked upwards, into the sky. Soon, so soon, he would have to go, to once again leave any wolves he knew and continue his journey. He lowered his dark muzzle, and shook his head to clear it. Then, he ran his dry, sore tongue over his fangs, wiping thier dark surfaces clear of blood and aquiring another cut in the process. Whoever this female was, she had a burden to carry as well, and Void knew how hard that could be. "I would have thought not remembering would be better than remembering" He finally said, carefully avoiding any hint of emotion that might give him away. Having those demonic orange eyes helped here, as they showed no emotion unless you stared straight into them, and he always tryed to stop that from happening. Void repositioned his huge, tattered wings, gritting his teeth as the tears rubbed against his skin...
